On April 22, Derriontay Perry attempted to rob a Memphis homeowner. Fortunately, the resident’s security camera was able to record the entire encounter. It captured Perry approaching the male resident in his attempt to rob him. Then, a female resident is seen exiting the home with a gun and firing a shot in the air warning Perry. Perry then pulled out his own gun and shot back at the couple. Luckily, no one was injured, but Perry did flee. However, he was later identified on local television. Once Perry’s mother saw the report on her son, she called 911 and turned him in. In reference to the incident, Perry’s mother stated, “I love him.
That’s what you call tough love. Something a lot of more parents need to start doing.” Perry has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and aggravated robbery and he is currently being held in jail on a $100,000 bond.
